This family tree shows my Baynham pedigree. 

Originally, I had thought that I was descended from Sir Thomas Baynham of Clearwell’s eldest son Sir Alexander Baynham (1459-1524) and his ‘Westbury’ side of the family.

However, a study of the Heralds’ Visitation of Gloucesterhsire of 1623 cast doubt on this view (see my outline of the issue here), so I had to look for an alternative line …

Thanks to the research of Dr. A. C. Baynham and the arguments he sets out in his book “The Life and Times of a Forest Family: the Ap Einion alias Baynham Family”, I now believe that I am descended from Sir Thomas Baynham of Clearwell’s youngest son Sir Christopher Baynham and his ‘Clearwell’ side of the family!

Dr. Baynham has shown that, in his tree, John Baynham (b.1637 – his  ‘Old John’) was the son of  Thomas Baynham (his ‘The Wire Drawer’) who was the son of Sir Christopher Baynham’s youngest son Thomas Baynham of Noxon Park. Old John had a younger brother, Thomas (b.1639) who I reckon was the father of my ancestor John Baynham (b.1679) … so this links my John Baynham back to Sir Christopher and the ‘Clearwell’ Baynhams – as shown below.
