First Draft Tree, which contained errors ...
This was my first draft of a family tree to show my Baynham pedigree.
It was compiled in late 2012, based mostly on information held on the Ancestry website – in the family trees of other members with Baynham connections, supported where available by original sources.
However, I now think that the Heralds’ Visitation of Gloucesterhsire of 1623 casts serious doubt on this draft (and, by implication, many ‘Baynham’ trees).
I think the problem lies with the offspring of Joseph Baynham of Westbury (1548-1613); in this version Joseph is shown as the father of Thomas (b.1604), either by his first wife Anne Hampton or his second wife Mary Bonham, but the Visitation of 1623 taken just ten years after Joseph’s death clearly shows that Anne had no children and Mary had three daughters – Anne, Elizabeth and Dorothy. (Joseph’s third wife, Joan Smyth, produced three more children – Alexander, Joseph and Anne … but no Thomas).
So, I needed to find an alternative ancestral line down to Thomas Baynham (b.1639), father of John Baynham (b.1679) and here it is!
