Their first child John was baptised on 17th June 1715 in Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire; the transcript records that his father John was ‘of the Parish of Foy in the County of Hereford’.

Their other children were all baptised at the church of St. Michael and All Angels in Hope Mansell. As evidenced by the baptism registers, the family lived in the Hamlet(t) of Newland (also known as Newland Hamlet) a tiny village in Lea Bailey and a short walk from Hope Mansell.
