Sir John Baynham (1488-1528)
John was born in 1488.
He married Anne Mathew [b.1490?], daughter of Sir David Mathew and Alice [Anne?] Veale, at ……………….in 1511, when he was 23 and she was [21?]. They had at least one child: William in 1511. Ann died at …………………….. in 0000, aged 00.
John died at ………………. on 6th August 1528, aged 40.
John was born in 1488, presumably at Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucestershire.

On 12th February 1513 John was mentioned as trustee in a licence granted to John Peyto “to alienate lands in Chesterton, Warwickshire to William Tracy, senior, Willaim Tracy, junior, John Baynham, Thomas Baynham [?] and William Throgmorton to hold during the life of Margaret, wife of the said John Peyto, to the use of himself, his wife, and his heirs”.
On 1st March 1518, he is mentioned in a pardon granted to the garrison at Tournay, bringing certificates subscribed by the council there, according to the tenor set forth; viz. to various men, including John Baynham.
At the time of the 1522 Military Survey, was John living at Eastbach Court as he appears with goods on the list for English Bicknor?
John died on 6th August 1528, aged 40.
IPM – shows that by a deed of 5th February 1526 he had granted to John Arnold an annuity of 40s. for the term of his life for performing the office of Steward of the Manor of Westbury, and that he had settled the manor upon trustees to his own use and that of Ann his wife and the heirs of their bodies, and that William Baynham is son and nearest heir of the said John and is aged 17 years. He is not stated to have died seized, either in possession or reversion, of the manors of Magna Dene, Parva Dene, or Ruardene
