Thomas Baynham ('The Blacksmith') (1639-1694)
Born: 1639
Parents: Thomas Baynham (‘The Wire Drawer’) and Mary
Married: 1666 to Joane Trapin
Died: 1694
Thomas, my seven times great-grandfather, was born in 1639.
He married Joane Trapin in December 1666 at the church of St. Michael and All Angels in Brampton Abbotts, Herefordshire when they were both about 27. They had seven children: Jane in 1667; Sarah in 1668; Alice in 1672; Hannah in 1675; Joan in 1676; John, my six times great-grandfather, in 1679; Stephen in 1690.
Thomas died in 1694, aged 55.
Joane died in 1700, aged about 61.
My seven times great-grandfather Thomas was baptised at the church of St. Nicholas in Gloucester on 25th August 1639.

He married Joan Trapin in December 1666 at the church of St. Michael and All Angels in Brampton Abbotts, Herefordshire when he was 27.
They were married on either on 4th or 22nd (there are two entries in the Register – both appear to be by the same hand), but perhaps the entry for 4th is for banns.

He was a blacksmith, as evidenced by the later burial record of his wife as ‘Joane Baynam widow of Thomas Baynham Black Smith’.

Together they had seven children, all of whom were baptised at the church of St. Michael and All Angels in Brampton Abbotts:
Jane, baptised on 19th October 1667.

Sarah, baptised on 14th March 1668.

In 1668 Thomas was a churchwarden and signed the Bishops Transcript.

Mary, baptised on 18th November 1671. Again Thomas signed the transcript as churchwarden.

A daughter named Alice was buried in 1672 in St. Michael’s church, on 27th October;
Thomas did not sign the Transcript. There is no record of Alice having been baptised.
Hannah, baptised on 10th April 1675.She died later the same year and was buried there as ‘Hanna Bainham’ on 4th June – along with a Mary Bainham, ‘spinster’.
Joan, baptised as ‘Jone’ on 27th February 1676. She later married John Clark there on 29th October 1706. They had at least one child: John (1710-1766). She was buried as ‘Jone Clark’ at the church of St Peter and St Paul in Marlborough, Wiltshire on 6th Nov 1691.

John, my six times great-grandfather, baptised on 11th October 1679.

Stephen, baptised on 6th April 1690. Recorded later as ‘Stephanus Baynham’ he married Maria Howells on 7th February 1713, at Hentland in Herefordshire – presumably at the church of St. Dubricius.

Thomas died in 1694, aged 55.
He was buried at St. Michael’s church, on 24th February.

His wife Joane died in 1700, aged 61.
She too was buried at St. Michael’s church, on 16th September.
